About Me
Hi there, I'm Brian Zaik. I design interfaces between technology and people and do a bit of front-end engineering as well.
Design + Code = Love
I studied computer engineering during my Bachelor's program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Along the way, I worked at some startup companies and built software that helped people share events, documents, and web-streamed student productions. Seeking design enlightenment, I jumped straight into a Master's of Human-Computer Interaction and learned how to understand human beings to create tech that makes their lives easier and more enjoyable.
I'm a Product Person
When I work with technology, I like to have a clear goal in mind. What will it do for people? What problems could I solve? I find it really invigorating to get involved with products early and take them from vision to implementation. I've developed a design process that seems to work well for me, though I'm always tweaking it. It all starts with acquiring a keen view of the potential users.
Variety is the Spice of My Life
My role model is the Renaissance Man. I like getting out of my comfort zone and trying new things. I love to travel and soak up perspectives different from my own. Even though I started as an engineer, I have an extreme appreciation for visual aesthetics and more "liberal" arts. The only letter that has always been consistent every time I've taken the Myers-Briggs test is 'N' ("intuitive"). My favorite work experiences have been working with groups of highly collaborative but widely distinct creatives who get things done.
Got a Problem to Solve? Let's Talk!
By day, I'm a Member of Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories. But I'm always open to helping people design innovative solutions to daunting problems. Send me a note and we can talk about your project.
